Affirmations alone don’t work ! Harmful and self defeating reactions are more likely.

Many people who have watched "The Secret" DVD, listened to the CDs or read the same book have experienced trying to make the Law of Attraction work for them, only to be disappointed.

And it will not work for them, apart from losing weight financially.(Money out of their pocket.)

They'll feel good about themselves initially, then bored, and then frustrated/disappointed or accepting of their 'status quo.'

Affirmations alone do not work in the way you hope, in any of the usual forms marketed to you.
There are several other components to the answer or our solution.

I first learned about the power of affirmations and visualization techniques and the laws of attraction/association over 30 years ago - also having been exposed to it years prior to that as a child.

The affirmation process is based on the following concept: thoughts create feelings, feelings create actions, actions create habits, habits create beliefs, belief systems create human identities, and your human identities create your reality.

This, like everything in the media, or even science - is only a part aspect or even half truth. The realities are either often unknown by the author or 'expert', or not a popular proposal.

As an adult I've embraced the whole concept, and spent time, effort, and money studying this subject, in an attempt to create the reality I wanted.

The majority of the self-improvement courses, books, and tapes taught me various methods of how to visualize and affirm what I wanted to create.

And again, using a good system, in a working manner will get you results.

Many of these techniques are touched on, sadly in a simplistic form, in "The Secret" materials.

It has been a great and valuable presentation, - as it has given a lot of people hope, a few a new direction in their life, and inspired a few more to begin to learn.

For me, I've meditated and visualized hundreds of positive affirmations daily. I've listened to hours upon hours of my own voice affirming what I wanted on an endless loop.

 I did mirror affirmations several times a day. I told myself that saying or thinking something negative was worse than saying a four-letter word. AFFIRMATIONS SHOULD'VE WORKED, 
but they weren’t working for me. I felt that disappointment., then the failure within - because I didn't at that stage understand why they weren’t working for me.

It became painfully evident that affirmations, alone, were disappointingly ineffective at creating the reality I wanted. Of course this is the polite version of that statement - really my first thoughts were rather uncomplimentary.


Sadly, this is one of the true secrets - relying on verbalization's alone to do the work you are meant to do actively, is unhelpful, and very very unhealthy. 

Almost like the magic pill - good short term, better than the other options, yet needs to be followed up with your own activity as a new healthy pattern.

You must see this reality: - success is a fun yet challenging path at times.

 In order for the affirmations, alone, concept to work you must have had a life with-
  • functional role models, and have been 100% free of , or
  • devoid of physical, sexual, or 
  • all verbal abuse. 

Your mind would have to be a clean slate… free of all past pain, loss, and any dysfunctional experiences.

A great aspiration - yet for the absolute majority of people, probably not  100% real.

Unfortunately many of the self-help gurus don’t teach you to clean the slate of your mind first.
Driven by their own self-importance, they instead, teach that you can cover positive affirmations over a dysfunctional past and still create the reality you want.

As I discovered, the “keep going/pile it on top” theory, alone, will not work. It is better than the negative controlling offerings of others, yet brings little measurable change long-term.

It will not work alone, it only creates a cognitive dissonance leaving you stuck in place, buying even more of their products to stay emotionally up.

The average person’s mind is cluttered with contradictory information, courtesy of their past or present, and enhanced by the media.

 This restricts the input of positive new affirmations because of the Law of the Universe that states: 

"Nothing changes until IT becomes what it is."


Another secret here - change the outside a little, or your response to the outside - to change within, and your results long-term. (it need not cost a lot - and it is better so.)

You will only start to create long term positive change in your life when you learn how to clean the slate of your mind, and make the habit to keep it going like that.
That is the great thing about good meditation training.


It has been said that doing affirmations without cleaning your mind… is like putting on a clean white top or shirt before taking a shower!
Everyone sees how good and clean you look, yet the shirt or top soon becomes dirty, and quicker than before.

***Questions, are significantly better than self-affirmations*** Try it for a few weeks - make a poster on your wall/fridge/food cupboard/mirror- or somewhere you see it a few times a day - and where the 'great unwashed' will not demean you for it; firstly of a self statement you want, and then next time try a questioning statement -in a possibility manner- for a few weeks.

When we think of hypnosis we often think of or remember the on stage shows of Derren Brown, Émile Coué de la Châtaigneraie, The Amazing Kreskin, - or the native witchdoctor and their spells.

Those all change peoples behaviour responses to the showman/shamans intonations or command.


When you see what is happening you can make the technique work easily - and do it for you to help you.

It is a simple 4 step system, with an invocation by someone in authority. In this case the authority of you is going to be you.

It's claimed to fix any health, love,weight, or money - any problem you have in fact. If you have a big problem- see your local licensed professional. 

What is does and will do - is change your response to triggers or events - if you have a good teacher.

You are better with a program without direct person contact initially, some therapists are in a guru mentality, and may take advantage of you.



One 4 step system (with a guarantee)
Step 1. CLEARING This is a hypnotic recording that allows the release of negative energy and influence in general. An  imagery used is that you are lying in a most pleasant stream of water. You are asked to conceptualize how you want to be.


Step 2. HYPNOSIS This recording will take you as deep into hypnosis as you want.
At the deepest level you are given hypnotic suggestions identical to the suggestions that relate to the other parts.

Step 3.  SUBLIMINAL
Brings growth into the suggestions (effective while you do other things).

Step 4. SLEEP LEARNING Continues the suggestions effect while you sleep;- the committment of action is the reinforcer here.


Other styles follow similar ways - and given time to experiment - you can even learn to do it for others.

Like everything, it is uncommon for bags of gold, or whatever you want to directly fall from the empty sky- you must move towards it or them with some activity, to make sure it works for you.

Having done years of sleep tapes alone, my advice would be a short sleep tape as you go to sleep--not the mass media TV-- and only a short one so your body can recover and rebuild while you sleep.
Then on awakening try for quietness -use that time for reading something helpful/inspiring or for your own thoughts.You may have to awake several minutes early.

Doing your self hypnosis exercises mid-morning, or mid-afternoon - while you can stay awake after,seems to have the fastest results.

Hope in a hopeless place, are you helping yourself? Just a little, or are you saying- I'm tired of my life just now,and I come home after a long day, then I've had enough.

Some of us are always rushing, and often we are forced to by other people, or our life circumstances.

In fact, most people are constantly rushing toward the future and never slow down or stop. They're more concerned with being somewhere besides where they are just now.
 They have hope of arriving at a future that is different from and in some ways better than where they are right now. Which could well be the truth.

 All around us there are various people offering hope in a better future in one form or another. Some honest and some not so.
Some deceitful sales people will say practically anything to offer us hope, and this indicates how important hope is to us, and how we value the ideal future for ourselves.

 Each of us wants hope–whether it is for the curing of a disease or for a better life or something else, especially when our daily life is a trial.
 
 For example, when you buy a car or an appliance, you think know what you are getting.(mostly recognition/acceptance, even if it is your own).

Yet you might see a fortune-teller, or a guru, with an idea of reaching a future better than today.

 People  have been going to fortune-tellers, and listening to seers/gurus/ministers of faith or doom for thousands of years, because a fortune-teller etc gives hope that something in that person’s life will change.

They of course can help, and may bring good luck and success, if they are skilled. Primarily because they bring you to a state of anticipation or looking for the lucky opportunities you may have missed seeing before.


This is the secret: - to bring yourself to a calmed sense of awareness of opportunity.



 So create a perception of yourself as someone who has good luck and a hope of the future. Read inspiring stories, that fit with you, watch inspiring films - hang out with people that see possibilities.

And be one of those inspiring possible thinking people in someway - yourself.

This attitude, makes the day less tiring, as you are in a path of 'least resistance'; bad stuff happens, yet it has less effect on you.


 Learn to be your own fortune teller, then watch the future unfold for your benefit

It, as well as an artificial - or real depending on your circumstances - pressure, is a resource used as a token of exchange in a hierarchical society.

In Roman times we had Caesar and his associates, then the progression of kings, queens, lords with their hangers on, and today much the same.

With an elevation of status (above you - it seems) of royalty and their ministers, priestesses, priests and gurus of types - the magic system continues.

So the reality of the system is that money is important; - and as a means of exchange. By not having access to an amount (note the ability to extract a tithe or tax by the above mentioned), you are placed as a heretic, an outcast in society.

The power for you is in the marshaling of the resources - whether others use it for good or bad, it is up to you to use it as you see good.

There will always be froth at the top of the good, there will always be the the worst of society employed by large organizations - the inadequate persons of life both gravitate to - and are taught to belong there.

It is important for you, to put aside both that thought, and somehow that the use of, or your control of this resource stream is not for you - it must be, for you to survive, and do well. You alone know what is best for you.

Expectations are why one person can be poor but still proud, independent, and reasonably content while the guy or gal next door is merely content to slide into a swamp of misery, blame, and dependence.

If we feel we can make important decisions about our lives and carry them out, we're more likely to be happy in ourselves.



Even people who've been rendered poor by disasters, theft, financial mistakes, or abuse are better off when they can think, "Well, maybe I put myself here and maybe I didn't. But in any case, I can now choose how to respond to the situation I'm in." We always have that choice given time. We can use our appreciation of the situation to act in our best benefit.
To dramatize the negative is a deceit used in the bag of power tricks – by making someone powerless, the rescuer/persecutor in fact now is rewarded - money or ego.

If a "poor" person who has chosen material poverty for religious reasons, to pursue adventure, to live a simple life, or to avoid paying high taxes may actually feel they have more and better choices because of their lack of .
Conversely, a well-off person who yielded to a pressure to become a lawyer, or marry the "right" spouse, or pay a big mortgage in a country-club neighborhood may feel eventually trapped.
Expectations – generally our own -for ourselves, either to fit in or be accepted - ultimately dictate our happiness or contentment in our life.


The genetic theory of happiness, is a very minor factor; as an example – if you were to walk a path through a small unformed grass track daily – it will change to be formed. And the natural way.
So you can teach yourself to react/respond in the way best for you by beginning and continuing until it becomes natural for you.
It is like saying women are better than men, or blacks better than whites.
The physical attributes are in fact different - the power is in the using. The thinking (success) patterns can be formed.


Think of a happiness set point as being like a thermostat. If your happiness is "set" to the equivalent of 16 (60 F) degrees, then you may sometimes be "warmer" and sometimes "cooler," but you'll always return to that setting.
If your set point is 22 (72 F), then you'll still have ups and downs, but you'll always return to a "warmer" state of happiness.

But we also have the ability to change the settings on our personal "thermostats." If you were born with a low set point, you can choose to be able to raise it.


So -your thinking what does happiness and contentment have to do with money? Well as before - put aside that the sky is falling in - the country/people/world you live in is not at your expectation level.


It is a good and noble pursuit for you to be passionate about - only those you wish to control you for their own reasons of fear, or power secondly;- will try to teach you to believe otherwise.

Being in control and enjoying life
The best way to control people is to elevate yourself to a place that is more important than them.

There are a number of ways we have control exercised over us, and it is due to this control that 
most people give away power to others, places, and things outside of themselves.


 One of the traits of religious figures, gurus and politicians, is that they are able to convince their followers that they alone will in some way can make their followers happier, more secure and better off. Many even profess to have magical powers that can make you happy.

The entire message of these leaders is that they–and they alone—can be the source of your happiness.

Each religion for the most part—makes its followers subjects, of a God, deity, or gods of some form. The ministers then tell you when you can be happy (following its rules), should feel guilty (not following its rules), and so on.

 To most people in the world, their religion is more important than what is inside them. It has become them, and they will defend it to the utmost without question.

It is in fact, one of the skills used by the media, and advertising industry to get you to buy.

Many people get their self-worth from the brands they are wearing and feel that if they cover their body with various brands, they will be or are more important.

If we feel empty or insecure inside, we may believe that wrapping ourselves in costly brand names- many with the labels easily noticed. will of course make us more significant.
Marketers, salespeople and others are all too happy to give us the impression that whatever they are selling will fill the void we feel—but it never quite seems to.


If we believe someone is more important to us, that gives them the perfect opportunity to take advantage of us. I remember the first time I met one of my then favorite marketing gurus. This person had just given a speech in front of  ten thousand people and was standing outside the venue. I walked up to him shook his hand and told him how much I admired what he was doing. He thanked me and then proceeded to try and sell the next event to me.

It is worse, when you are desperate. there are some predators out there, and you will literally get nothing.

Expect one party to have the power - if it ends up being shared, good - otherwise ensure you have it.



Because most people are so insecure, they will imitate the group around them. This form of imitation means that they are giving people around them the power.


If you do not recognize your own self-worth, you will consistently imitate those around you. If everyone started wearing  a red hat, you will too.

Is there anything wrong with imitating a style of dress?  I don't think so, mostly, It protects us from exclusion of our chosen group.
What is wrong, though, is when we give our authority to other people, groups and base our happiness on this.

Take back the power you may have given others  and pave your own way in the world. Base your happiness on how you want to be—and not on an outside ideal.
Your happiness, sense of achievement and sense of balance needs to come from within and not outside of yourself.
When you give power to others, you set yourself up for unhappiness and disappointment, they are either not perfect, or in it for themselves.


 For many of us, our value does not come from within. It comes from an endless stream of titles, achievements, personal and group associations, material goods, bank account balances, romantic partners, conquests etc.

Believe in your own value - and you will have that empowerment.

There is only one of you.  Appreciate your attributes.

Perception and influence- the magician and the ant
A walk to where?
Which garden path, are you being led up? The path you are choosing? Or one you are conditioned to.

Starting with the ant as an example, - it can only have a few hundred thousand cells in the entire nervous system, compared to man’s multiple billions of cells in his brain alone. Some would say a woman has even more.

 Each ant, like each person, is a living breathing identity with behavioral patternings- (learnt stuff) in its nerve cells. In the ant’s case, the behavioral patternings are few in number and almost entirely genetic in origin.

 As opposed to a person whose learning is more influential on the way they approach things.

The ant learns a little behavior from experiences, but mostly it merely responds to stimuli with a few simple responses programmed into its nervous system by its genes.

Sometimes they walk around and around until they perish.

 Naturally, the simple ant behavior system has  limitations. For example, one type of ant when it smells a pheromone given off by a dead ant’s body in the nest, immediately responds by cooperating with other ants in carrying the dead body out of the hive.

 And Harvard’s  E.O. Wilson performed one of the best psychology experiments ever done when he put dead-ant pheromone on a live ant. Quite naturally; the other ants dragged this useful live ant out of the hive even though it kicked and otherwise protested throughout the entire process.

Such is the brain of the ant. It has a simple program of responses that generally work out alright; but which are imprudently used by rote.
Another type of ant demonstrates that the limited brain of ants can be misled by circumstances as well as by clever manipulation from other creatures. This ant, when walking, will follow the ant ahead, and when these ants stumble into an obstacle, they will begin walking in a circle. until someone works it out.

 So that was the history, and the ant:- let's look how it applies to people.

 

The perception system of man clearly demonstrates just such an unfortunate outcome.
Man's thinking can be easily fooled, either by manipulation, by circumstances occurring by accident.
If the stimulus is kept below a certain level, the awareness doesn't get through.

A magician was able to make the Statue of Liberty disappear after a few magic words- (the political speech). The audience sitting in the dark was not aware that it was sitting on a platform that was rotating so slowly, below their sensory threshold, that no one could feel it moving. When a surrounding curtain was then opened in the place on the platform where the Statue had earlier appeared, it seemed to have disappeared.

Note the use of an established authority figure, some well recognized words, and who in fact has control of the environment, and timing.


 And even when the realization does get through, it is often not seen for what it is.

Another  magic trick is that he removes your wristwatch without your feeling it. As he does this, he applies the pressure of touch on your wrist that you think it was the only pressure of touch. But he has at the same time applied a separate  intense pressure of touch on your body in another place.

Last one- you can try at home for yourself.

Put one hand in a bucket of warm - not hot water and one hand in a bucket of cold water, for a minute or two.Then suddenly remove both your hands and place them in a single bucket of room temperature water. Now, with both your hands in the same water, one hand feels as if it has just been put in cold water and the other hand feels as if it has just been placed in hot water. *(Get medical, and professional opinion or supervision, if required).

When you see perception so easily fooled by mere contrast, where a simple temperature gauge would make no error, and realize that you are being misled by that contrast, you are well on the way toward understanding, not only how magicians can fool people, but also how life can fool you.

This can occur, through deliberate human manipulation or otherwise, if you don’t take simple precautions.

Predominantly- you must think for yourself;- sometimes the influence and teachings of the group is not the most helpful for you, or humanity.
