Do you too feel at times subject to external forces?
As conquerors throughout history, have used force and subterfuge to get what they want, for themselves or their kings or queens.
We too are often used for another's purpose.
The control and influence would be better to come from within us, for ourselves.
Recognizing that is the start of a new way of life.
Sometimes we think we are alone in our problem/s, but to look beyond our present circle, and gently act to change that, we can experience the change we desire,
Many a slave, has contentedly remained a slave- be it to a fashion, owner, or thought.
Yet many slaves will create their own world, and leave the imaginary chains of slavery.
A true story.
As she was taken to jail, she walked numbly questioning what would happen now? Showered, cleaned, inspected and re-clothed in the uniform clothing of the prison, she sat dejectedly on the edge of her bed. Alone in her small cell, she began to shiver with the fear of it all. As night fell, she slept-then didn't, with snippets of dream scenes layering themselves in a confusing garden of thought.
Hesitantly awakening with the noise and light of the morning, she slipped as she got out of bed, landing heavily on the heated floor. Picking herself up- she asked what now?
The door was opened by some unseen and remote authority- and the call for breakfast food was sounded. Making her way down the stairs to the group dining room, she was assaulted by the stale smells that seemed to come from every corner. After what was only a minute or two- or was it hours- she arrived at the counter got her food then made her way to her numbered seat, and carefully sat down.
The food reminded her of films of concentration camps- tiny amounts of distasteful almost cardboard-like lumps. Why am I here? she asked herself silently; what did I do to deserve this? As the others scoffed their platefuls quickly. Eating slowly- knowing that this was all there was-(or was it?)- she finished and prepared for the day.
The controller's bell sounded to leave the table-and to take their trays and dishes to be washed. As she stood by the trough with tears in her eyes, washing hers and others dishes, an older woman eased beside her, and said-"nice day love, isn't it" The younger woman- mumbled " not really. How ever could it be?"
The older lady replied-" you know, I woke up this morning and praise me - I was still alive, and then this wonderful buffet of food they put on here, and all I had to do was a few dishes with my friends. What more could I ask for? And later on, I'm going to sit outside in the fresh air with my thoughts, and my friends if I ask them to come. Then you know- the best thing of all. I get to sleep again tonight in my own private room"
The younger women said "sounds like we are in different places. I'd like to be were you are" The old lady took her gently to one side with her arm around her, and said-" you are dear. We are both in the same place- looking at it in a different way".............
In fact life may not be what you , or where you want - You must view it be of your benefit to be that.
".......Hägar Horrible: the slovenly, overfed Viking protagonist. Hägar is both a fierce warrior and a family man—with the same problems as your average modern suburbanite. One running gag involves his exceptionally poor personal hygiene; for example, his annual bath -July 14- is a time of national rejoicing and celebrations. Another source of comedy is Hägar's simplistic, childlike cluelessness, often finding himself at odds with his more sensible family members. Much to Hägar's chagrin, on the few occasions where he behaves maturely (such as helping Helga in daily tasks or displaying self-control of his titanic appetite), the other characters are often caught off guard, since they are more accustomed with his bumbling and childish attitude. The most notable example was when Helga demanded that Hägar speak the truth at least one time, Hägar agrees and does so, something that pleasantly surprises even God himself, who promptly makes angels playing the trumpets in celebration of this "miracle".
HelgaHorrible:Hägar's large-framed, bossy housewife, dressed in operatic, Brünnhilde - like blonde braids and helmet. She is the quintessential maternal "over-mothering" figure. Helga bickers with Hägar over his poor habits—such as forgetting to wash his hands after pillaging, or not wiping his feet before entering the hovel. She is often seen trying to teach her old-fashioned values to her daughter Honi, though Honi never truly "gets" it. Her formidable appearance is based on that of a Wagnerian Valkyrie. Lucky Eddie: Hägar's first mate, best friend and lieutenant in Viking raids. Contrary to popular depictions of Vikings as brawny macho warriors, Eddie is a short, skinny, chinless, awkward and naïve weakling. The ironically-named "Lucky" Eddie is, in fact, so unlucky he can be crushed by a stray rainbow. He wears a funnel rather than a helmet on his head, which he always keeps on because he's afraid of squirrels. Unlike Hägar, Eddie is educated enough to be able to read and speak in other languages—though paradoxically this does not make him any more intelligent. Having been unconditionally known and accepted simply by his moniker of "Lucky Eddie," no one of Hägar's entourage, not even Hägar himself, ever knew Lucky Eddie's "real" name until around the late-1990s & early-2000s, when he was asked directly (by Hägar himself on both separate occasions) to share his true name: during the first inquiry Eddie squawked out an unpronounceable screed which left him raw-throated and winded; during the second inquiry, in which Eddie asked for Hägar's assurance that this revelation would be kept "in confidence," Eddie whispers his "real" name into Hägar's ear, upon hearing which Hägar accidentally blurts out what was shared with him in secret in a fit of uncontrollable laughter, thus inadvertently revealing that Lucky Eddie's real name is "Fortuitous Eduardo."
Hamlet Horrible: Hägar and Helga's intelligent, clean, obedient and studious young son—almost always seen reading a book. He shows no interest in becoming a Viking (he wants to be a dentist), which makes him the shame of the family to Hägar—though Helga and Honi are more tolerant and encourage his education. Even when Hägar forces him to practice his Viking skills, he's shown to be terrible at them. He is the victim of his would-be girlfriend Hernia's unrequited affection.
Honi Horrible:Hägar and Helga's beloved, beautiful, sweet, cheerful 16-year old daughter—dressed as a young Valkyrie with a winged helmet, metallic breastplate and a long skirt made of chainmail. Honi takes after Hägar's side of the family, a fact that her boyfriend Lute sometimes finds intimidating. She's a Viking warrior like her father, her weapons of choice are a spear and shield. However, she's clueless about traditional "girlish" things, and tends to be overdramatic. Helga is constantly trying to marry her off, as she's seen as an "old maid" in their backward community. She was romantically involved with Lute the balladeer from the very beginning, and is the only character that can endure his terrible singing. Lute:an inept bard/minstrel/troubadour who can neither play, sing in tune nor rhyme properly, although Lute remains totally oblivious to everyone else's perception, and considers himself quite the talent. He is Honi's boyfriend, though Honi is in control of their relationship (similar to Helga and Hägar); they are perpetually engaged though they still haven't married. His name is in reference to the stringed instrument of the same name, which he is often seen playing (albeit poorly). Hernia: a young, tomboyish girl deeply infatuated with the sensitive Hamlet, though her love is unrequited, often to her comically melodramatic dismay.
Snert: Hägar's dog; Snert is supposed to be a bird/hunting dog, but the reader gets the impression that most of the time he just doesn't feel like working. Snert understands everything Hägar tells him, but usually refuses to do what he's told. Sometimes Snert is depicted as having a "wife" and a couple of puppies, but they hardly play any role in the comic. Snert wears a (miniature) Viking helmet like everyone else in Hägar's household—including the pets. Snert barks with a Viking accent ("voof").
Kvack: the family's German duck. Kvack is Helga's friend and confidante—she will usually spy on Hägar and quack loudly whenever he does something he's not supposed to, such as having another hogshead of "Glögg[10]" or "Wiffleberry wine", Hägar's frequently-imbibed beverages. Obviously, Hägar doesn't like Kvack at all—and would like to get rid of her. Being a German duck, Kvack "quacks" with an accent.[11] Later in the strip, she brought home a litter of ducklings, which Helga "mothers" as if they were human grandchildren. Dr. Zook: a cowled, druid-like "physician" who gives primarily nutritional and psychiatric advice, and is a notorious and dangerous quack. He always wears a hood that conceals his face except for his long nose which sticks out. On few occasions, however, his face has at least partially been seen. Helga's Father: a geriatric Viking whose beard reaches the floor, with a taste for young women. Helga's Mother: a stereotypically shrewish mother-in-law, with antlers on her helmet. The Tax Collector: The King's officious emissary. Mr. Giggles: a torturer who torments captives by forcible tickling. Koya the Lawyer: an unpleasant but effective barrister. The Executioner: often accompanies the Tax Collector. Brother Olaf: a monk who unsuccessfully explains to Hägar the concept of sin
Other recurring minor characters include an unnamed psychic or soothsayer, whom Honi and Hägar regularly consult, a balding waiter at Helga's favorite restaurant "The King of England" and various Anglo-Saxon raiders who serve as Hägar's friends and rivals, such as Dirty Dirk and Mean Max.
Note;- the creation of the characters, and how in each one you see something in them.
What characters are you identifying with in your life?
Why?
How are they helping you to get what you want?
Here in the stories of Hägar - Dik and Chris Browne - the authors, have created these characters to get their message to you.
Now the secret's are-
1; you must begin to create your own cast of supporting characters, and thence your own life.
2; see people as they are, they will often act as you expect them to.
3; read your children, and yourself the stories with the characters that are the most
As the fruit to the tree and the water to the source, so results are to
thoughts.
In nature it's the result of to us, of a silent growth; a
process which has long been gathering force.
The fruit of the tree and
the water from the mountains are the effect of a combination of
natural processes in the air and earth which work together to produce them, and some say the gift of their god.
If one allows a
thought to enter his mind; and a second and a third time he welcomed it, and then allows it to remain, gradually he gets used to it, and being cherished, and fondled, and tended; it
grows, until it becomes a part of the self; and at last it gains a strength and force that it
attracts to itself the opportunity which allows it to burst forth and
ripen into results.
The source of luck.
You must be careful- if you build your castles of thought on the shifting sands. the foundations will
be gradually give way, so at last falls any
strong man who allows corrupt thoughts to creep into his mind.
Guard well your thoughts, for what you really are in your secret
thoughts today, be it good or not, you may in some form become, sooner or later.
Using Your Mental Attitude
As a being of thought, your dominant mental attitude will determine your
condition in life. It will also be the gauge of your knowledge and the
measure of your attainment.
You are the thinker of your thoughts and as such you are the maker of
yourself and condition. Thought is causal -(not casual) and creative, and appears in
your character and life in the form of results.
A woman or a man thinks, and their life appears.
You imagine your circumstances as being separate from yourself, but they
are intimately related to your inner world of thought. Nothing is fated,
everything is formed. The offering of fate is either an acquiescence, or a dictator's tool of control.
You are today where
your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts
take you. You can alter your thoughts, and in time alter
your condition.
You will often come to the place where your most abiding and
intense thoughts have a sense of internal security.
You are as powerful to
obey as you are to disobey; as strong to be pure as to be impure.
Ideally no man is hindered by another; he is only hindered by himself.
Yet. you must be careful- deceitful and insecure people will constantly try to unsettle you, so they are in a position of control.
Your mental attitude towards others will faithfully react upon yourself,
and will manifest itself in every relation of your life.
(Use the pointing of the index finger while the other 3 fingers point back towards to you, to be reminded of that).
As the
father-mother of your thoughts, and your children's if you have them. you are the maker of your/their state and
condition.
When you know yourself, you will perceive, that every event
in your life is weighed in a faultless balance.
As you begin to
understand the law within your mind you will begin to regard yourself as an maker of circumstances, and will in time become the
strong and seeing master of your reality, getting the results you want.
The sower was ambitious. He had excellent seed. And the excellent seed
could be an excellent opportunity, an excellent product, an excellent
story. So we have an ambitious sower with an excellent seed. But now
here is the rest of the story
Emanuel James "Jim" Rohn 1930 –2009.
The story says the sower goes out to sow the seed but the first part of the seed falls by the wayside and the birds get it.
The birds are going to get some.
Now when the birds get some you’ve got two options:
Number one is to
chase the birds. And say “Well let me get a hold of them, and I'll........... But, I wouldn’t do this.
Here’s what happens if you go chasing birds: you leave the field.
If you go chasing birds now, you leave the field, which is going to distract from your future, not add.
So you can’t chase birds and try to straighten all this out.
Here’s what it is, it’s just one of those things.
And here’s the best comment when things are a little disappointing:
“Isn’t that interesting.”
Now here’s the rest of the story. It says, the sower kept on sowing.
See that was the secret to his success.
He kept on sowing.
And if you keep sowing, you can sow more than the birds can get because there aren’t enough birds.
If you keep sowing, there are some birds, but there’s not enough, because the Law of Averages will work for you.
The Rocky Ground
Now here’s what else it says, the sower now keeps sowing the seeds, now the seeds fall, the story says, on rocky ground where the soil is shallow, and the rocky ground where the soil is shallow is not of your making.
Because you have good seed and you are an ambitious sower. So the rocky ground where
the soil is shallow is not of your making. But here’s what it says that
happened…. this time the
little seed that falls to the ground begin to grow, and the little
plant starts to grow, but on the first hot day, it withers and dies.
The Hot Weather
The hot weather is going to get some. And this is not of your making.
Here’s what you must say when that happens:
“Isn’t that interesting.”
What can you do?
The answer is “Nothing”.
You might say”I’m going to change this!”
I would not take that
class. You know the sun comes up in the east, somebody says, why is
that? It just does.
Here’s the answer: some don’t grow.
You might say “Well, it
shouldn’t be this way!”. It just is.
Learn To Discipline Your Disappointment
Now here was the secret to the ambitious sower with good seed, it said “he kept on sowing”.
This is a key phrase
now to use the rest of your life. You must learn to discipline your
disappointment. Because you did not set up the set up.
Some things are not going to work out, and that is not of your making. Now if you made gross errors that would be a learning experience. You’re responsible for
that. But if it is in the normal course of things, this is the way
things are.
The Thorny Ground
Now here’s what it says: the sower keeps on sowing. Now it says the seeds falls on thorny ground.
And somebody says, “Well, how much of this do you have to go through?” Keep with us, it’s quite not the end of the story.
Now the little seed
falls on thorny ground, Now the little plant starts to grow again. But
as the plant starts to grow, the thorns choke it to death, and it
dies,-the thorns are going to get some, and that’s not of your making.
And what are these
thorns? The story even calls these little thorns little cares, little
distractions, little somethings, we do not know what all they are.
People who let little things cheat them out of big opportunities.
People who let little things cheat them out of big opportunities, and you feel almost helpless, what could I do about that?
And you say, “Why is this?”.
I’m asking you not to sign up for that class.
Don’t sign up for this “Why is This” class-too many people in there for a long time.
It’s just the way it is.
Like winter following fall and spring following winter, and summer following spring.
The thorns are going to get some.
But here’s the good news. Let’s read the rest of the story quickly.......
The sower keeps on sowing the seed,
keeps on sowing.
The Law of Averages is still going to work.
The Good Ground
But now, here’s what the story said: Finally the seed falls on good ground. Finally the seed falls on good ground- (it always will if you keep sowing).
When Jim Rohn talked
about the above story, it was in the context of Network Marketing,
(Multi-Level Marketing)-
How can you make the story of the Sower apply to you?
The same wind blows
on us all. It’s beneficial for all, IF ONLY you will give yourself a chance to grow.
I had long before remarked that, in relation to practice, it is
sometimes necessary to adopt, as if above doubt, opinions which we
discern to be highly uncertain, as has been already said; but as I then
desired to give my attention solely to the search after truth, I thought
that a procedure exactly the opposite was called for, and that I ought
to reject as absolutely false all opinions in regard to which I could
suppose the least ground for doubt, in order to ascertain whether after
that there remained aught in my belief that was wholly indubitable.
