Navigating Uncharted Waters finding your way in the unknown path of life

On a ship or yacht, it is the law, as well as good practice to use an updated chart (a map for water).
What do you do when no such chart exists?

Depends a lot, on how you found yourself there,- are you choosing to take that route? - Were you forced in by accident, - or a greater power (the weather)? - Did you follow someone else's direction? - Did you make a mistake?

Exactly like life, as it seems to put you in those situations.

For a start - you have a learnt awareness of you and your capabilities - how far and fast is comfortable to go. You reconfirm your safety gear, and ensure all are ready in case of the worst.

You take stock of how it is now, and what you want the desired result or place to be.

You know your supporting crew, and which one's have the abilities- you are also aware of the detractors - whom you are guarded with.

You ensure you and your crew are adequately clothed and fed, with sufficient sleep.

Being cognizant of the reality of nature- the weather and the tides or current - you use them to help you. The stars, and their predictability are your friends- you in fact  appreciate the darkness. The sun brings light, warmth, and a position marker, You pay attention to the existing indicators of birds, seaweed. fish and phosphorescence. and allow them to assist you.

If you have electronic tools, you use them all to establish your position or track; if you can communicate with an experienced honest associate to help you, you will. You attempt to find someone on board, or able to be communicated with on shore,- that has been here before, and succeeded in getting through; if not you take charge and carry on - improvising tools as you need to.

In this situation it is commonly the pirates awaiting the spoils- as a taxation or their takings that are your only off ship worries. You have enough skill to know who to avoid, - being the naysayers, the inexperienced, and the blowhards. And you have confidence in the experience as the master of your vessel to be sure of your success.

You make your way with good care, taking notes and making your own chart for another time when you may return, or lead others through the same passage, With lookouts at all positions on your vessel you navigate through the uncharted rocks, gently pushing aside the expected masses of floating trash, attracting numerous porpoises to joyfully surf in your bow wave.

Some of the crew are relaxed and carry on their daily tasks, and others are like a squawking seagull- which you accept -yet pay no heed to-they offer no value to the situation. They will settle down once you are in familiar waters with their bottle of beer or rum and have great pleasure in themselves as a new blowhard.

You make your way through the passage, with all intact, and a new found respect for yourself and your vessel. Knowing that you can do it easily again.

A poem to remember-

~ THE SLOCUM SOCIETY ~

In an age when mass society has rendered obsolete the
qualities of individual courage and independent thought,
the oceans of the world still remain,
vast and uncluttered, beautiful but unforgiving,
awaiting those who will not submit.
Their voyages are not an escape,
but a fulfillment.

I feel like being i am dragged away - what control do I really have?

being dragged away by a conquering force
Do you too feel at times subject to external forces?

As conquerors throughout history, have used force and subterfuge to get what they want, for themselves or their kings or queens.
We too are often used for another's purpose.
The control and influence would be better to come from within us, for ourselves.
Recognizing that is the start of a new way of life.
Sometimes we think we are alone in our problem/s, but to look beyond our present circle, and gently act to change that, we can experience the change we desire,
Many a slave, has contentedly remained a slave- be it to a fashion, owner, or thought.
Yet many slaves will create their own world, and leave the imaginary chains of slavery.

A true story.

As she was taken to jail, she walked numbly questioning what would happen now?
Showered, cleaned, inspected and re-clothed in the uniform clothing of the prison, she sat dejectedly on the edge of her bed. Alone in her small cell, she began to shiver with the fear of it all.
As night fell, she slept-then didn't, with snippets of dream scenes layering themselves in a confusing garden of thought.

Hesitantly awakening with the noise and light of the morning, she slipped as she got out of bed, landing heavily on the heated floor.
Picking herself up- she asked what now?

The door was opened by some unseen and remote authority- and the call for breakfast food was sounded.
Making her way down the stairs to the group dining room, she was assaulted by the stale smells that seemed to come from every corner. After what was only a minute or two- or was it hours- she arrived at the counter got her food then made her way to her numbered seat, and carefully sat down.

The food reminded her of films of concentration camps- tiny amounts of distasteful almost cardboard-like lumps.
Why am I here? she asked herself silently; what did I do to deserve this? As the others scoffed their platefuls quickly.
Eating slowly- knowing that this was all there was-(or was it?)- she finished and prepared for the day.

The controller's bell sounded to leave the table-and to take their trays and dishes to be washed. As she stood by the trough with tears in her eyes, washing hers and others dishes, an older woman eased beside her, and said-"nice day love, isn't it"
The younger woman- mumbled " not really. How ever could it be?"

The older lady replied-" you know, I woke up this morning and praise me - I was still alive, and then this wonderful buffet of food they put on here, and all I had to do was a few dishes with my friends. What more could I ask for? And later on, I'm going to sit outside in the fresh air with my thoughts, and my friends if I ask them to come. Then you know- the best thing of all. I get to sleep again tonight in my own private room"

The younger women said "sounds like we are in different places. I'd like to be were you are"
The old lady took her gently to one side with her arm around her, and said-" you are dear. We are both in the same place- looking at it in a different way".............

In fact life may not be what you , or where you want  - You must view it be of your benefit to be that.

Leading myself into situations - How did I get into this one?

And how did I end up here? by thorinus.blogspot.com
And how did I end up here?

You know our thoughts, our hopes of how it is to be, or how it will be, and especially our desire to be accepted - whether it be from our group or authority can shape our activities and results totally.

It seems there isn't an answer to get what we want, rather than what we do get.

What goes into the mind with an emotion - and with acceptance is what will be internalized
(this is who or how I am)- to become yourself.

Generally you must meet all of these criteria to have a long lasting effect.

Examples (for good and bad):-
  • Sitting with a close friend watching the same type of film over a period of weeks.
  • Singing in a church you love with a group.
  • Reading and sharing a series or style of books-then beginning to dress or act like the characters.

When bad stuff happens, accept the fact that it happened- not that it is you.

An old re-shareable story.

A hunter goes into the bush. He finds an old human skull. The hunter says: “What brought you here?” The skull answers: “Talking brought me here.” The hunter runs off to the king. He tells the king: “I found a dry human skull in the bush. It asks you how its father and mother are.”

The king says: “Never since my mother bore me have I heard that a dead skull can speak.” The king summons his advisers and authorities - and asks them if they have ever heard anything like this. None of his wise men has heard the like, and they decide to send guards out with the hunter into the bush to find out if his story is true and, if so, to learn the reason for it. The guards accompany the hunter into the bush with the order to kill him on the spot should he have lied.

The guards and the hunter come to the skull. The hunter addresses the skull: “Skull, speak.” The skull is silent. The hunter asks as before: “What brought you here?” The skull does not answer. The whole day long the hunter begs the skull to speak, but it does not answer. In the evening the guards tell the hunter to make the skull speak, and when he cannot, the guards kill the hunter in accordance with the king’s command.

When the guards are gone, the skull opens its jaws and asks the dead hunter’s head: “What brought you here?” The dead hunter’s head replies: “Talking brought me here!”

The Talking Skull - a translated Nigerian folk tale

 *********

Note the finding of a new discovery, consider why did the hunter want to share it with the authority?, the controlling power of the authority, the persistence of the hunter in a way that did not work for him at that time. The finality of it all- his technique of bringing the King and his subservients to the discovery, rather than creating a curiosity so that they would find it themselves. The giving up of power to those who want to maintain the status quo. The hunters belief system, and his actions  that brought him his results.

So, how do you change it to get what you want?

Change within to change without - use your emotions to re-define your world.

If it is really difficult - leave for a time:- meditate (or sit quietly listening to the good of nature) - go to a library, and read some harmless humor-find an empty mosque, temple, or church- even and especially if you offer to sweep the floor to be there regularly; - or change where or how you might live.

The Law of Sowing And Reaping

The sower was ambitious. He had excellent seed. And the excellent seed could be an excellent opportunity, an excellent product, an excellent story. So we have an ambitious sower with an excellent seed. But now here is the rest of the story
Emanuel James "Jim" Rohn 1930 –2009.

The story says the sower goes out to sow the seed but the first part of the seed falls by the wayside and the birds get it.

The birds are going to get some.

Now when the birds get some you’ve got two options:
Number one is to chase the birds. And say “Well let me get a hold of them, and I'll........... But, I wouldn’t do this.
Here’s what happens if you go chasing birds: you leave the field.

If you go chasing birds now, you leave the field, which is going to distract from your future, not add.
So you can’t chase birds and try to straighten all this out.
Here’s what it is, it’s just one of those things.
And here’s the best comment when things are a little disappointing:

“Isn’t that interesting.”

Now here’s the rest of the story. It says, the sower kept on sowing.
See that was the secret to his success.

He kept on sowing.

And if you keep sowing, you can sow more than the birds can get because there aren’t enough birds.
If you keep sowing, there are some birds, but there’s not enough, because the Law of Averages will work for you.

The Rocky Ground

Now here’s what else it says, the sower now keeps sowing the seeds, now the seeds fall, the story says, on rocky ground where the soil is shallow, and the rocky ground where the soil is shallow is not of your making.
Because you have good seed and you are an ambitious sower. So the rocky ground where the soil is shallow is not of your making. But here’s what it says that happened…. this time the little seed that falls to the ground begin to grow, and the little plant starts to grow, but on the first hot day, it withers and dies.

The Hot Weather

The hot weather is going to get some. And this is not of your making. Here’s what you must say when that happens:
“Isn’t that interesting.”

What can you do?

The answer is “Nothing”.
You might say”I’m going to change this!”
I would not take that class. You know the sun comes up in the east, somebody says, why is that? It just does.
Here’s the answer: some don’t grow.
You might say “Well, it shouldn’t be this way!”. It just is.

Learn To Discipline Your Disappointment

Now here was the secret to the ambitious sower with good seed, it said “he kept on sowing”.
This is a key phrase now to use the rest of your life. You must learn to discipline your disappointment. Because you did not set up the set up.
Some things are not going to work out, and that is not of your making. Now if you made gross errors that would be a learning experience. You’re responsible for that. But if it is in the normal course of things, this is the way things are.

The Thorny Ground

Now here’s what it says: the sower keeps on sowing. Now it says the seeds falls on thorny ground.
And somebody says, “Well, how much of this do you have to go through?” Keep with us, it’s quite not the end of the story.
Now the little seed falls on thorny ground, Now the little plant starts to grow again. But as the plant starts to grow, the thorns choke it to death, and it dies,-the thorns are going to get some, and that’s not of your making.
And what are these thorns? The story even calls these little thorns little cares, little distractions, little somethings, we do not know what all they are.

People who let little things cheat them out of big opportunities.

People who let little things cheat them out of big opportunities, and you feel almost helpless, what could I do about that?

And you say, “Why is this?”.
I’m asking you not to sign up for that class.

Don’t sign up for this “Why is This” class-too many people in there for a long time.

It’s just the way it is.
Like winter following fall and spring following winter, and summer following spring.
The thorns are going to get some.

But here’s the good news. Let’s read the rest of the story quickly.......

The sower keeps on sowing the seed, keeps on sowing.
The Law of Averages is still going to work.

The Good Ground

But now, here’s what the story said: Finally the seed falls on good ground. Finally the seed falls on good ground- (it always will if you keep sowing).

When Jim Rohn talked about the above story, it was in the context of Network Marketing, (Multi-Level Marketing)-

How can you make the story of the Sower apply to you?

The same wind blows on us all. It’s beneficial for all, IF ONLY you will give yourself a chance to grow.
